San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle has been placed on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury suffered in the team's Week 1 win against the Seattle Seahawks, which will force him to miss at least four games, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday (September 9).

"Sources: 49ers are placing Pro Bowl TE George Kittle on injured reserve, meaning he now will miss at least the next four games. Kittle injured his hamstring during Sunday’s win over Seattle and now will miss games at New Orleans, vs. Atlanta, Jacksonville and at the Rams," Schefter wrote on his X account.

The decision came after head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Kittle was expected to miss a few weeks. Kittle suffered the injury during the second quarter of Sunday's game, having recorded four receptions for 25 yards and the Niners' first touchdown of the 2025 season in the first quarter.

Niners quarterback Brock Purdy is also reportedly dealing with left shoulder a toe injuries and said he's "not sure, has to see how it heals and how the week goes on it." San Francisco has veteran Mac Jones listed as the backup.

Jones, who was a first-round pick for the New England Patriots in 2021, appeared in 10 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in place of Trevor Lawrence last season.
