ESPN First Take host Molly Qerim confirmed reports that she's leaving the show and network at the end of the year in a statement shared on her Instagram Story Tuesday (September 15) morning.
"Now that the news came out earlier than I intended, and not in the way I hoped...To my First Take family, After much reflection, I’ve decided it’s time to close this incredible chapter and step away from First Take,” Qerim wrote in a post on her Instagram Story. “Hosting this show has been one of the greatest honors of my career. Every morning, I had the privilege of sharing the desk with some of the most brilliant, passionate, and entertaining voices in sports — and with all of you, the best fans in the world.
“I’m so grateful for what this journey has given me: lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and the chance to be part of something truly special. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for welcoming me into your homes.”
Sports Business Journal initially reported Qerim's upcoming departure on Monday (September 15), claiming she was offered a contract but chose to move on. Qerim, who had previously worked at NFL Network and CBS Sports Network, joined ESPN in 2006 as part of the network's digital/mobile efforts before moving to the news team in 2008.
The Connecticut native took over as the host of the popular debate show, First Take, in 2015, initially as a fill-in and later becoming the permanent host after Cari Champion moved to SportsCenter. No details about Qerim's future plans beyond ESPN have been revealed, however, she told fans to "Stay tuned" in her statement.
